London Broil

I first tried this recipe at the Hershman's and it was tender and juicy. It was so delectable, the English demanded we tell the world about the only English food worthy of mention - besides fish and chips, but anyone can do that.

This was from the kitchen of Dean's mom, Nancy Hershman, and she found it in a Playboy magazine back in the 60’s featuring one of here sorority sisters. Someday I'd like to verify this claim.

This is the original recipe I got from Dean, but I'd like to try an overnight marinade to help tenderize and flavor the meat. Here's a take from the food network and one from All Recipes that suggests the marinade.

  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp pepper

  • 1 tbsp parsley flakes
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Directions

  1. Diagonally score meat on both sides. Sprinkle with meat tenderizer.
  2. Mix mustards & seasonings. Put ½ on one side of steak. Grill mustard side down on hot coals 5-10 minutes. Put mustard on remaining side. Turn & grill 5 minutes more.
  3. Combine butter, parsley & lemon juice.
  4. Slide meat diagonally in thin slices with electric knife.
  5. Pour butter sauce over sliced meat & serve.
